Genesis

The most important part of building high quality upper receiver groups is using parts that are machined and coated within certain specifications. High quality parts are non-negotiable for reliability.

Each part is examined to insure proper functionality. Parts that do not meet our specifications do not make the cut. In the end, small details can be the difference between going “Bang” or “click.”

The Pursuit of Accuracy

Each upper receiver is lapped to ensure perfect fitment between the upper receiver and the barrel. Consistency translates to accuracy. Making the fitment between the upper receiver and the barrel harmonious allows them to act as one rather that two different parts. Lapping the upper receiver provides a flat surface for the barrel to mate with.

Assembly

-The forward assist and dust cover are installed.

-Barrel extension, upper threads and barrel nut threads are coated in Aeroshell 64 to insure proper installation and a smooth deinstallation if desired.

-Barrel nut is tightened to 35 foot-pounds. This is enough to keep the barrel nut secured. If removal is desired, it can be easily removed.

Gas Block

A low-profile gas block is standard on all of our builds due to reliability. To ensure the gas block will not move under harsh impacts, each barrel is dimpled once. The main thing holding the gas block to the barrel is two screws on the bottom of the gas block. Each screw is tightened to 25 foot-pounds and treated with high temperature thread locker to prevent the screws from loosening. Finally, the screws will be witnessed marked. In the unlikely scenario the screws come loose, you will be able to see the witness mark unaligned and get them retightened.

Handguard

A free float handguard allows for less contact on the barrel. A barrel that can flex under combustion can be harmonious. Keeping the barrel contact closer the chamber allows for the best accuracy. A free float handguard is the best option for an accurized platform.

Modularity is the name of the game when it comes to handguards. M-LOK is the best at being lightweight, robust and compatible.

Quad rails are another good option. Picatinny is quite modular while being strong. Increased material around the barrel can help the barrel stay cooler for a longer period of time.

Blue thread locker will be applied to each handguard screw. Each screw will be tightened to 40 ft pounds and witnessed marked.

Final Product

Each upper will be test fired with SAAMI specification ammunition. Five rounds will be test fired to confirm proper functionality. Along with last round bolt hold open. After the initial test fire, every upper will be measured for headspace.

There is no building technique that can set one upper apart from the rest. But an assortment of building techniques that can deliver a top tier upper receiver group. You do not always need the best equipment for a job. But when your life matters the best tool is the only option.
